In 2021, 67% of residents of Colorado identified as White/non-hispanic. 22.3% identified as Hispanic/Latino, 4.1% identified as Black, 3.4% identified as Asian, 0.2% as Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander, and 2.5% as multiracial. As for political leanings, 42% identified as Democratic/Democratic leaning, 41% identified as Republican/Republican leaning, and 17% identified as no leaning. There is a rather high number of Colorado Gubernatorial election candidates, notable candidates include Democratic incumbent Jared Polis and Republican candidate Heidi Ganahl.

Jared Polis has served as the Colorado governor since 2019 and previously served as a representative of Colorado's 2nd congressional district. Polis is the first openly gay man to be elected as a U.S. governor.

Heidi Ganahl founded an international pet care service called Camp Bow Wow. She was elected as Regent of the University of Colorado in 2016, making her the first statewide elected Republican candidate in Colorado.

Primaries

Polis ran unopposed in the Democratic primaries as an incumbent.

Ganahl ran against one other candidate in the Republican primaries, winning by only 7%.
